Shannon Celia is an award-winning watercolorist who paints “gritty with the pretty” moments where nature and humans collide. Her contemporary still life and landscapes dance between impressionism and abstraction and she’s inspired daily in her Southern California studio overlooking backyard gardens and kooky chickens.
When painting en plein air, Celia seeks quiet, wide-open places where she can “hear the wind and wild creatures sing.” She enjoys stories found in small towns with big personalities and was the Inaugural Artist-in- Residence at beautiful Moose Creek Ranch in Victor, Idaho last year where she painted onsite and in surrounding areas near Yellowstone and Jackson Hole, WY during three separate visits. She also gave a gallery talk at Fox Fine Art in Driggs, Idaho and her work appeared in Southwest Art Magazine.
Born in Charleston and raised in New England, her creative journey began exploring the woods and beaches of the Eastern seaboard collecting shells, rocks and feathers, writing songs, poetry and making collages. She found her passion for oil and then watercolor painting while attending Pepperdine University in California.
Her work is collected internationally, she’s enjoyed 16 career solo exhibits including two museum exhibits, co-founded Pepperdine University’s “Alumni Art Showcase,” and was hired for five public art projects over the last 6 years. As time permits, she accepts commissions and open studio appointments.
